BOZEMAN DEACONESS CANCER CENTER CHOSEN AS CLINICAL RESEARCH SITE

JUNE 21, 2012
Bozeman may be far from major metropolitan medical centers but that doesn't prevent our patients from accessing the latest in cutting edge cancer care. Through its affiliation with Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Bozeman Deaconess Cancer Center recently was invited, by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN®) to join NCCN’s Affiliate Research Project (ARP) and offer as many as 50 new clinical cancer research trials to the trials already available to their patients.

“Only seven affiliates were chosen to participate, from among all the cancer centers across the country,” said Spencer Green, Business Operations Manager for Bozeman Deaconess Cancer Center.

NCCN’s ARP, developed by NCCN’s Oncology Research Program (ORP), is designed to improve patient outcomes and advance medical science through collaborations with 21 member institutions and their community-based affiliate networks to give community researchers access to innovative therapies. Once nominated for affiliation, Bozeman Deaconess Cancer Center had a site visit from NCCN investigators to talk with doctors, tour the facilities and determine if the site was suitable for research projects headed up by some of the country’s top cancer investigators.

Added Green, “This offers our patients another opportunity to receive cutting edge treatment without requiring them to travel to a large city, where many of these trials originate.”

Medical Oncology

OFFERING ACCESS TO THE LATEST CLINICAL STUDIES.

Researchers are finding better ways to treat cancer with new drugs, new approaches to radiation and surgery, and new methods like vaccine and gene therapy. As a network member of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, patients have increased access to these clinical studies. These studies are used to prove the safety and effectiveness of new treatments -- if a new treatment approach is proven to work, those enrolled in the clinical trial are among the first to benefit.
