ANNUAL HEALTH SCREENING DAY AT BOZEMAN DEACONESS HEALTH SERVICES THIS SATURDAY

MARCH 24, 2014
As part of its mission “To improve community health and quality of life,” Bozeman Deaconess Health Services once again is holding its annual Health Screening Day on Saturday, March 29, from 7 am-1 pm, offering free and reduced price health screening and wellness tips for the whole family.

Many of the popular free screenings such as bone density, glucose, hearing and heart rate will be offered, while new options include oral cancer checks, varicose veins risk, leg and grip strength and skin analysis. Information on radiology procedures such as low-dose CT scans for lung cancer, advance directives, organ donation, support groups and more will be available, along with the chance to discuss current medications with pharmacists and safely dispose of unused prescription drugs. Adults also may experience how vision is impaired with excess alcohol by trying out “drunk goggles,” learn Hands-Only CPR, and get a chair massage.

Children can attend fitness activities such as “Go Noodle” zumba, explore an ambulance, medical helicopter and highway patrol car, learn to escape a “smoke” house, and get a removable tattoo or their face painted at no charge. With bike season approaching, children are encouraged to bring along their bike helmets to make sure they still fit properly for free, or new helmets can be purchased for $15.

To soothe those morning hunger pangs and in support of healthy eating habits, staff members from BDHS and Kohl’s will be assisting children in making healthy breakfast yogurt parfaits, as part of Kohl’s Kids Eat Smart. And since BDHS wants to keep kids safe, parents can get a free digital fingerprint and photo ID of their child, and may have their child’s blood typed for only $20.

The popular blood screenings for adults which require fasting for 12-14 hours prior to testing again will be offered, including general health screen, prostate cancer, blood sugar levels, colon cancer indicators, risk of heart disease, Vitamin B and Vitamin D levels, and blood and Rh type. Charges for these tests, ranging between $15 and $30, are not submitted to insurance companies but receipts will be provided.

“This is an easy and affordable way for the whole family to get checked out for some medical issues at one time,” said Beverly Macmillan, BDHS Marketing Outreach Coordinator. “Moms, dads and kids can be screened and learn lots of valuable medical facts on prevention and treatments, all while having fun.”

FOCUSING ON ADULT MEDICINE

Our physicians have had special study and training focusing on the prevention and treatment of adult diseases. Internists are specially trained to solve puzzling diagnostic problems and can handle severe chronic illnesses and situations where several different illnesses may strike at the same time. We focus on your wellness (disease prevention and the promotion of health), women's health, substance abuse, mental health, as well as effective treatment of common problems of the eyes, ears, skin, nervous system and reproductive organs.

INTERNAL MEDICINE

Our internists are doctors for adults--both in treating disease and keeping patients well. As specialists in adult heath care we care for our patients for life. We oversee our patient’s care even when other doctors are involved.

Medical Home
Medical Home is a team-led, patient-centered approach to health care, where the patient is the most important player on their healthcare team.  The patient and the medical home team develop a plan of care created specifically for the patient, focuses on wellness and prevention, keeps the patient connected with the health care team and coordinates care with other health care providers.
We offer open scheduling and expanded hours for our patients convenience. Patient-Centered Medical Home practices result in better quality of care and lowed costs for the patient by increasing access to more efficient, more coordinated care. By avoiding unnecessary hospitalizations and emergency room visits, these early results are producing savings for payers, purchasers and patients.

Bozeman Deaconess Health Group clinics each received NCQA Level 3 Patient Centered Medical Home honors
Bozeman Deaconess Belgrade Clinic, Bridger Internal Medicine, Spinelli Internal Medicine, Internal Medicine Associates and Family Medicine and Pediatrics are recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for using evidence-based, patient-centered processes that focus on highly coordinated care and long-term participative relationships.
